Chapter 205 Canglin Tournament (20)
The underground cavern was an extremely large hidden map with crisscrossing tunnels and many FLAGs. There were three entrances with hidden locations in Canglin Town and no matter which entrance the players entered, there is only one way to move deeper and as they pass through monsters, traps and other levels, there would be more ways to choose. Various rewards will also be distributed in the middle or end of these paths.
Technically, even players the who couldn’t swim should be able to get out from the pool because while the middle was deep, its sides were shallow. Even if they were to catch their breaths and sink to the bottom of the pool, they would still be able to walk up from the bottom. Moreover, players would not lose consciousness even if they choked from water after using up their breaths, their Survival Value though would be constantly going down as they suffer from the drowning feeling made by the system.
As players keep on advancing on the path, they will inevitably encounter the monster attacking plot.
“Something seems to be coming this way… ” Little Tan was spouting off nonsense again after he heard the noise.
“That’s what I wanted to ask you.” Dispirited said, “There are no plants on the cliff, but the stench of the cave tells me that some kind of animal is present. The first part of the path we walked was tasteless, and the tunnel got wider there, which means its probably very big and can only move in this part. ” She took out her MP5 out of the bag and equipped her flashlight on the gun, pointing it at the darkness ahead with a ready-to-fire posture.
“Then let’s run! ” Wang Tanzhi said .” It can’t catch us in the narrower passage.”
Dispirited turned her head and said “Then what? This is the only way out. It’s temporarily safe on the other side of the pool, but we won’t be able to go anywhere”
“Well… That makes sense.” Wang Tanzhi also took out his Winchester shotgun and loaded it.
In fact, going back was also a way. In that scenario, the players wouldn’t have anything to eat, drink or sleep, but as long as they were not attacked by monsters, their Survival Value won’t be threatened and as the sun comes down, their teammates would realize that they had not returned to the hotel and come find them.
However, Feng Bujue couldn’t have known what had happened to Little Tan and Dispirited, he wouldn’t think that “those two are trapped in a certain underground pit”, but more along the lines of being captured by NPCs. Therefore, even if Feng Bujue checked each house in town, he would only make a cursory inspection of each empty room to see if anyone was there, and would not necessarily be able to find the hole in the deserted house.
In a word, the strategy of escaping back to the pool had a good chance of nobody being able to find them until the end of the scenario. This is the judgment made by Dispirited.
“Yes, it’s getting closed. “Dispirited looked into the darkness. Both she and Little Tan’s Detection Specialist were on level E, but as a Shooting Specialist, her visual abilities were significantly better than Wang Tanzhi.
Little Tan also straightened his gun and aimed forward.
“Roar!” –another roar bellowed out and a monster the size of a car entered their sights.
The monster was so large that it could hardly be seen in its entirety from up close, its skin that was exposed to the light looked slimy and watery. They could see the contours of its back and it should approximately be a giant crocodile.
The monster’s head was slightly different from a crocodile’s and it seemed to have a dog’s head with a voice like a bear’s.
The shotgun shot the monster with a bang, it was supposed to be a pretty powerful attack at medium distances but at this moment, it was unable to penetrate the monster’s armor and the shrapnel got embedded on the back of the crocodile.
Almost at the same time, Dispirited’s MP5 began to fire and her attacks were apparently more efficient. She aimed at the monster’s eyes, firing regularly.
Knowing that a bullet in the eye would be a disaster, the giant crocodile opened its jaws, shuddering, and continued to advance.
“Retreat!” Dispirited said simply and clearly.
Wang Tanzhi got that she did not just mean ‘Retreat’ but to fight while retreating. He fired then loaded his shotgun as he walked back and attacked, side by side with Dispirited.
The monster got attacked and although it was not severely damaged, it could not be said to be completely unaffected. Besides, in order to protect its eyes from attack, it kept moving its head, which affected its crawling speed.
When the giant croc’s speed stagnated, Wang Tanzhi and Dispirited became more flexible. They both had long-range weapons in hand and plenty of ammunition. As long as they kept a distance of more than five meters, they would shoot this strange monster to death.
The presence of the monster was imposing and terrifying in such a narrow and dark place. If the player really ran away with their backs to it, then the likelihood of being chased would be very strong. However, the monster wasn’t very strong in this setting and was even weaker than the monster tree that Like Rain and Feng Bujue encountered on the mountain.
Its speed was general and a little pressure could slow it down; its defense was high and its weakness was very obvious. It could be easily damaged by players with a focused attack; its’ attack mode is also purely physical damage and its attack power may not be able to kill a player by one attack.
And most importantly, the surrounding environment basically pointed out how to deal with it. Players who only have close combat could choose to turn around and run as fast as they can and players with ranged attacks could use their ranged weapons to drag its feet and kite it.
In fact, it’s easier to turn around and run if you knew the FLAGs in advance. Because the monster would end up stuck somewhere in the tunnel and become completely unable to move, making it easy to kill.
This configuration of guiding seemed to make the battle too easy, but it made sense from a systematic perspective.
Hidden caverns like this which contained rewards or drama FLAGs, were not designed to give players a guaranteed path to death. If that’s the result, it might be designed to fail and die.
So, when the player consumed two-thirds of their Survival Value and a certain amount of Stamina Value in the first place, the fight that follows wouldn’t be too difficult. Unless it was Nightmare Difficulty…
Roar! – and sure enough, with another roar, the two players who fled from the monster for five minutes found something really awkward… The monster that had ran after them got itself stuck in a place where the rocks were gathered, becoming unable to move.
