Chapter 198 Canglin Tournament (13)
Wang Tanzhi wanted to say his nickname, but “The Nervous Long-Range Warrior” didn’t really sound like a title that a Wulin person would have…
In fact, between the five players, only Feng Bujue’s title, “The Unpredictable Fanatic” was a suitable title… The girls’ “Spirit Serving Swordsman” and “The Skilled Gunman” including Ji Bu’s “High-Profile Strike” would seem unclear and difficult to understand in the eyes of martial artists.
“Li Ruoyu.”
“Gu Xiaoling.” [1]
After all, this wasn’t Thunderbolt World, Like Rain and Dispirited Laughing Bones didn’t sound like a name, so they simply stated their real names.
“Err… “Master Ji Bu hesitated for two seconds “Jin Fugui.” [2]
Hearing these three words, Feng Bujue almost couldn’t hold back his laughter. Even Like Rain could also just barely tolerate it.
Little Tan and Dispirited were ecstatic, they hit Ji Bu’s shoulder, guffawing “haha… So… Hahahahahaha…” The four NPCs on the other side of the room couldn’t help but be puzzled.
“Oh, my three squatters love to talk and laugh with each other. This is just an inside joke between them,” Feng Bujue explained with a natural face. “They can’t stop laughing. Please excuse us if there is any discourtesy.”
His explanation wasn’t very convincing, but the NPCs didn’t want to dig any further. In their minds, the reason they were laughing at Ji Bu was because he gave a fake name. But Young Master Ji Bu really reported his real name… In the middle of the 21st century, a person who grew up in a big city was given such a name by his parents… It was a real tragedy.
“Haha… Lord Feng’s word made sense.” Lin Chang was the first and eldest among the six swordsmen, his manner of dealing with people was naturally more mature and thought out. “Please sit down so we can talk.” He led the men of the Breaking Sword Tea Shack to a large table in the room and sat down.
After Feng Bujue sat down, he changed the topic immediately, “All right, may I know the reason why senior invited us here?”
“It’s no big deal.” Ye Muhan said, ” Lord Feng is more than qualified to teach us some moves as a senior from what he showed downstairs.”
“Ha… I don’t deserve it, I don’t deserve it.” Feng Bujue smiled, being extremely fake, exuding a “modest person” vibe, meanwhile saying in his heart: ‘This younger sister, don’t you want to personally test my Kungfu again?’ (His [Shield Card] was in CD right now) … “No, no, no, no.” Lin Chang smiled and said, “Even Grandpa Ye was impressed by your skills. I’m quite sure that Lord Feng has no opponent in with the same age.”
“Not at all…” Feng Bujue pointed to Like Rain. “My wife can easily beat me.”
The facial expression of the four NPC’s instantly changed, the players became even more mysterious. From Feng Bujue’s expression, it was impossible to tell which of his words were true or false. Even the contents of his statements were difficult to judge.
Take this sentence for instance, if it were true, then Lady Feng was a more powerful master than her husband, which meant that she would be at least on the same level as the “Flower Shadow Six Swordsmen”; but if it were false… It would mean nothing, only proving that this Lord Feng is a “hen-pecked” man.
Even Lin Chang, the most thoughtful of the NPC’s, found the situation tricky. Over the past years, he had dealt with countless of people from Jianghu and knew that the most difficult person to deal with, was this kind of crazy, but calm and resourceful person. They could tell you the truth jokingly or could tell you a lie in a serious manner. They were unpredictable, and no one truly knows what they’ll want to do next.
Feng Bujue said, “By the way, you just mentioned “Grandpa Ye”. Is he the elder whom we met on the path outside of town?”
“Exactly.” Lin Chang answered.
Feng Bujue tentatively asked again, “I don’t really know this predecessor. What’s your relationship with him?”
The information that he had was very limited, though he learned some basic information last night about the town from Meng Jiu, apart from knowing that the old man whom he had been fighting with was named Ye Hai and was the butler of the Ye Family. He had no clue what the deal was with “Flower Shadow Six Swordsmen” even though the name “Flower Shadow Six Swordsmen” kept being tossed around by the people in the lobby.
So, he asked a vague question for the moment. He didn’t mention Ye Hai’s name, but followed Lin Chang’s conversation to ask more questions and guided him to reveal more information.
On the other hand, the NPCs thought that Feng Bujue had already heard of the “Flower Shadow Six Swordsmen” but just didn’t know who Ye Hai was. So, Lin Chang replied, “Grandpa Ye is the butler of the Ye Family so we naturally know him. He seldom sets foot in Jianghu, so it’s not that strange that Lord Feng doesn’t know him.”
“Well… even though he just gave a piece of information, I already know it. But I can infer from his tone that the “Flower Shadow Six Swordsmen” is a part of Ye Family… They politely invited us to come up and it must have been because of Ye Hai, that old man should’ve said something…” another thought crossed his mind, “But why didn’t they invite us the moment we entered the hotel? According to Ye Muhan’s words, they should’ve been observing the lobby in the shadows for a long time.” His conclusion forming instantaneously after the thought, “They wanted to see what we were capable of before deciding how to deal with us…”
A lot of thoughts flew orderly around Feng Bujue’s mind, his expression, including his eyes, never changing. Every nerve and muscle in his face was camouflaged like a chameleon. This kind of ability could be said to be Feng Bujue’s natural talent.
“No wonder…” Feng Bujue answered effectively.
Lin Chang continued, ” Grandpa Ye told us to invite you here and help you guys get settled in the hotel”. He glanced around the room, “This room is Day-C. It’s Grandpa Ye’s room but he hasn’t entered the town ever since he arrived. I’m sure all of you know the reason. So, Grandpa Ye wanted to hand out a favor and give this room to Lord Feng so that you’d have a place to stay for the coming days… “.
“Perfect, this was exactly what we’re looking for.” Feng Bujue showed an expression of gratitude, “I shall say thanks to the Ye Family’s kindness.” But what Feng Bujue really thought was, “That old thing is really fierce, he’s just been waiting there all this, not even eating, just keeping an eye on people endlessly… Was it really just a myth that meditating with a few mouthfuls of dew could replace sleep, lasting three to five days?
“You are welcome.” Lin Chang said, “We are truly happy to meet young heroes such as Lord Feng.”
“Alright, the ceremonies are already over, and advantages have been given. Can we mention that now?” Ye Muhan interjected.
Although her tone was ordinary, she was very blunt, so Lin Chang hastened to save the situation, “Ha… Then I’ll stop hiding things from Lord Feng. There is indeed one more thing that we’d like to discuss.”
Sensing a mission FLAG, Feng Bujue immediately said, “Just say it.”
“Err… I heard from Grandpa Ye, Lord Feng has a congenital pure Yang inner force?” Lin asked.
Feng Bujue remembered his battle with Ye Hai when he used his skill and immediately realized that since the other side was hit by a fighting skill with fire property, it made him conclude that he possessed a “Congenital Yang inner force”. This was a similar phenomenon to when the pretty girl downstairs stated that Feng Bujue had “Qi turning into nothing, gather and spread calmly”. It was a case where the lie became the truth because of a misunderstanding.
“Isn’t that obvious yet?” Feng Bujue asked.
His answer was obviously nonsense. Was it “Obviously not” or “Obviously”? Who knew?
“Brother, I will tell this myself.” Su Shang spoke out suddenly looking at Feng Bujue, “Lord Feng, this time I am asking for your help.” She paused for a moment, then said, “Last month, my martial art “Serene Ice-Cold” reached the top of the seventh level, but because of the internal force place limit, I can’t rely on myself to breakthrough.” Her face revealed a hesitant expression, “Because I’m a person inborn with Pure Yin Internal Force. If I want to break through the air pass, I must have the Pure Yang Inner Force of a person to assist me while breaking through the limit…”.
Su Shang had no other choice but to ask for Feng Bujue’s help. The growth of one’s internal force had a certain relation with their talent. She’d be 30 years old by the time she reached the eighth level if she just continued to completely rely on herself.
“Well…” Feng Bujue interrupted her wearing a strange look. He swept his gaze across the room. “Su, aren’t your two brothers… “.
Lin Chang interrupted, “Lord Feng, ordinary people can’t suppress my sister’s innate pure Yin Inner Force. He must at least be a virgin while also having been trained for more than 20 years with Pure Yang martial arts.”
“My inner Qi is more feminine.” Miao Shaoqin added, “While Brother Lin Chang studies Yang martial arts, he is married.”
“But I’m married too!!!”Feng Bujue exclaimed.
“That may not matter, Lord Feng has a congenital Pure Yang Internal Force, your base is different from ordinary people.” Su continued.
“Err… ” Feng Bujue who was thinking for a way out, ” Right, since you’re called the ‘six’ swords, then you guys should have two more swords… ”
“Oh, my younger sister, Lu Qingning, is also a woman.” Miao Shaoqin replied, “Second brother ‘Shadowless Sword’ Shang Fei, studies both Yin and Yang martial arts”.
“Ha… Ha… There are many heroes gathered in this hotel today…” Feng Bujue laughed, still hoping to escape the conversation.
Of course, he knew he was in trouble right now!
Although Jianghu was big, all the superiors were all basically gathered here. If there were any other available people in the hotel who could’ve helped, they would’ve already lent a hand without even being threatened and incited. The only reason they came to ask Feng Bujue, was probably because no one else qualified.
For those who practiced martial arts, improving their state was the top priority. If Su Shang waited until she was 30 years old to break through to the eighth floor, then in the following years, she’d have only one choice, changing to another martial arts as the auxiliary to practice again. Because even if she continued to study the original tips, it would still be difficult to make great progress and would only be a waste of time. The years of delay would negatively impact her future.
These swordsmen were like brothers and sisters, they were very frustrated with Su Shang’s current predicament. If her talent were ordinary, then one of the six swords could just help her without any problem. Unfortunately, she had a Congenital Pure Yin Force…
Therefore, Feng Bujue, because of a series of serendipitous incidents, became their only choice. If he hadn’t randomly used a skill with fire properties, then this wouldn’t have happened. Let’s just say, if he had used a skill with ice properties, then Ye Hai would’ve probably mistaken him for an Extreme Ice Palm user. The problem was, now that he has been mistaken as having a congenital pure Yang force. He couldn’t just admit that he had no internal force or that he was incapable of martial arts, now could we? As soon as the news leaked out, he would be beaten to death.
Seeing Feng Bujue having a difficult time, Ye Muhan immediately hit the table, exclaiming “Boy! We sincerely begged you, and now you want to refuse! What is the meaning of this? It’s just a matter of taking Qi and giving it to my sister. How hard is it? Us, Ye Family can even give you some medicine to recover your Qi!”
Ye Muhan had been disdainful ever since the beginning but there wasn’t really anything wrong with that. Being straight to the point type of person didn’t inherently make her a bad person. Besides, she was the number-one female swordsman in Jianghu, as a sister of Ye Cheng the Sword God, of course she’d be proud.
“It’s not that he doesn’t want to help.” Like Rain interjected suddenly “It’s that he can’t help.”
“Why is that?” Ye Muhan looked at Like Rain and asked.
“The martial arts that we use are different from you people. You guys even mentioned that we looked just like normal people. ” Like Rain imitated Feng Bujue’s Bull**** style.
“Indeed… Your martial arts are completely incomprehensible.” Lin Chang nodded his head.
“He… “Like Rain glancing at Feng Bujue, ” Jue-Ge may be a natural user of Pure Yang force, but he is practicing a self-taught skill. In the eyes of other martial artists, he doesn’t even have the most elementary form of common sense. So, he doesn’t know how to use Qi in his meditation” She sighed. “It is not that he is unwilling to help, it’s just that what you’re asking is too difficult.”
Haha! I knew I could depend on you! Feng Bujue laughed out loud in his heart.
Like Rain helped him out of his predicament, Feng Bujue then acted like Manager Kisuke [3], saying, “It is just so… My martial arts are for killing, not for helping.”
“Of course, “Lin Chang interrupted, smiling he replied, “That’s not a problem, if Lord Feng doesn’t mind, I can give you a set of the most basic inner Qi method and study it for half a day”.
Feng Bujue shouted in his mind, ‘What the F*** why do I HAVE to help you!!! You’re not even giving any room for discussion!!!’
“Alright, since that is the case, then this junior will have to oblige”.
“I assure you that I will do my best to help Su’s martial art advance.” Feng Bujue put on the appearance of gladly accepting when he was feeling the opposite! The four people’s facial expression which had turned cloudy suddenly became sunny, making a drastic turn “However… If I ask Senior Lin for advice it could be considered as learning the martial arts of Ye Family. If Sword God had any complaint…”
“Lord Feng, please rest assured. I’ll only teach you the Ye Family disciple’s introductory martial arts. It’s not some top secret and I believe our leader won’t mind.” Lin Chang said directly, “Besides, the big day is coming, this little thing… If we asking flying pigeons for directions, it’s meaningless.”
“It’s just teaching you some rough Kungfu, we’re not really making you a disciple.” Ye Muhan said this again in a more difficult and straightforward way, “If Lord Feng feels like this matter would become troublesome in the future, then you could just say that you were instructed by our big brother, in return of your teaching brother Lin some rough Kungfu moves.”
“Ha-ha… You must be joking… Feng has nothing to teach senior Lin…” Feng Bujue replied politely.
He knew it was likely to be a mission to learn a skill, but he couldn’t immediately accept it, as Lin Chang said it could be learned “in half a day”, which meant that after the fact, it would be revealed that he had no inner Qi, and the players will be bit to death when they go out of the hotel.
So, Feng Bujue’s idea was to stall, so he’d have more time to come up with a plan before taking on the mission. His original plan was to let Lin Chang ask for directions to Ye Cheng, which would have taken him half a day, unfortunately, Lin directly denied it.
“Senior Lin, is it possible to wait until tomorrow to teach him?” Like Rain coming to the rescue again.
“Oh? Why is that?”
“Our Kungfu is very peculiar, all of you saw what Jue-Ge did downstairs.” she calmly narrated, the NPC’s not even realizing that she was just completely lying “Although that move is fierce, it comes with a price. Because of that, it is inconvenient for me to say anything further. I’m afraid that today… ”
“Yeah! Yeah! That’s it!” Feng suddenly interrupted Like Rain, winking at her, which of course, was a part of the show.
The audience immediately believing that they were telling the truth. They probably thought that Like Rain was worried that Feng Bujue’s appearance would expose the secret weakness of the Breaking Sword Tea Shack’s martial arts.
“Alright, since today isn’t convenient, we’ll have to wait for another day”. Lin Chang said, “Sister Su, would you mind waiting for another day?”
“Of course.” Su Shang answered and said thanks to Feng Bujue.
[1]Rain’s name is 黎若雨,her surname is Li, Ruoyu means Like Rain. Her ID should’ve been 似雨若离, which is closer to Like Rain. It’s so weird so I decided to use the name “Like Rain”. It’s the same for Dispirited Laughing Bones, his Chinese name 骨小灵 is Inconvenient. They’ll still use the names Rain and Dispirited in the real world, but Dispirited might be called “Little Ling”, like “Little Tan”.
[2]Another naming problem. The reason why people laughed at Ji Bu’s name was because Jin Fugui sounds very vulgar… His surname means “Golden” and his given name means “Rich”. This kind of naming style was popular during 1960… If a boy was called Jin Fugui in the present, then he’ll have a shadow in his heart for his whole life. LOL.
[3]Urahara Kisuke: A character in the Japanese Manga called BLEACH by Tite Kubo. He’s a friend of the MC and has high IQ and a strange smile. I’m not sure if Feng Bujue referenced what he said directly from BLEACH or just copied his style.
